The Advent Equation

 

This week I get to hang out with and chat to some of the guys from The Advent Equation a melodic Progressive/Death Metal band from Mexico. They formed as Advent back in 2006 but changed the moniker in 2012 to it's current form. They released an EP under the original name and have brought out a single and 2 full length albums since the change. Their most recent album "Remnants of Oblivion" was released in December 2020.

Requiem For Oblivion

This time I had the pleasure to get the lowdown on Requiem for Oblivion a Progressive Death Metal band from Erie, Pennsylvania. They've been going since 2007 and have a demo, 2 EPs and 2 full-length albums to their names so far. Their 3rd EP Hindsight 20/20 is also about to be unleashed upon the world. I caught up with the band to discuss all things RFO.

1st up we have Brutal Death Metal outfit Hatchet Fucked. This is a solo act created by Alex Knox out of Arvada, Colorado, USA. They have a demo "Canopy of Adipocere" released in 2018

Kathaarsys @ The Dublin Castle - 2.4.13

Kathaarsys are a great band from Spain kind of progressive black metal when I 1st saw them but they have incorporated  further elements as they have developed. However they have real shitty luck when they play in the UK. I first saw them play at The Bridgehouse II in Canning Town, it was in 2008 I think, the supports weren't too bad, not that extreme exactly but at least reasonable enough in a gothic metal sort of style. Kathaarsys blew me away, in fact they blew everyone in the venue away, the sad part is that there was only me and one other person actually in the place!! And one staff member keeping us both in Guinness.

The next time I saw them was at The Dublin Castle in 2009, the support was totally unmemorable non-metal rubbish. It was a kind of band showcase night with band's bringing their mates along and then pissing off again after they'd played. Kathaarsys went on last and other than a couple of the last band's mates who were finishing their  beers I was practically the only one paying them any attention!!

I got a couple of dodgy videos on my old mobile phone, the picture and sound quality is poor

Anyway 3rd time did not prove any luckier for the band. Now a two piece with the drummer replaced by a drum machine, they had the same sort of rubbish, band showcase non-metal support and played their show to another empty room. It was me and the singer from De Profundis watching them and that was it really. Bloody sad but at least the video quality is better now

Beyond The Pain

Beyond The Pain is a French metal band combining death and progressive influences, skilfully mixing melancholic touches with strong riffs backed up by a powerful and varied singing.

Rosicrucian

Formed in early 2010 by members of Pale Mist, Excelsior, Betamaxx and Final. We started out making lo-fi black metal in the vein of Velvet Cacoon, Wolves In The Throne Room and Burzum, but as time has progressed we have evolved our sound to encapsulate so much more.

De Profundis

Delivering unique-sounding progressive extreme metal, De Profundis has many genre-bridging elements to their sound spanning across death, black and doom metal right through to jazz and progressive rock.

Netherbird

is a Swedish melodic black metal band with influences also from death metal and hints of doom. With dark imagery and multi layered lyrics they paint dark landscapes of sound and words with a depth that might surprise even the hard core metal listener.
